I have a dream
TO SHARE KNOWLEDGE IN RIO’S COMMUNITIES

The Dream

Knowledge is an essential tool for those who wish to overcome socioeconomic barriers and transform the world.

Our dream was to create spaces in which digital inclusion would be the trigger to encourage learning and awaken the pursuit of knowledge - all in neighborhoods with the lowest Human Development Index scores in Rio de Janeiro.

"The Knowledge Spaceship project proves that the needed infrastructure to overcome digital void in a city can come from inside the communities that were used as hubs. The rebirth of the communities is the starting point of a technological revolution. For that revolution to happen, a bridge must be built for people to have access to technology and knowledge, giving to all an equal opportunity of learning. This can unveil the great human potential in all of its forms. Rio has this bridge, which are the Knowledge Spaceships."

BUILDING THE DREAM

Citizenship through innovation

Only those who truly believe, can change reality. The first step towards changing requires empowerment, believing in one’s transformation potential and in the ability to be the change. That is why our strategy begins with a self esteem boost and an innovative way to share knowledge and induce reflection.

What if all human knowledge, through time, could be stored inside small crystals? If those small crystals really existed, where would they be? How would people access them?

In order to answer these questions, we created the Vessel concept. With a futuristic and, cozy aesthetic, built with sustainable, easy to work with building materials, we created these spaces. Next, we inserted contextualized content and local stories, all displayed via cutting edge interactive technology, aiming to stimulate the thirst for knowledge, cooperation and collaboration.

Today, the nine Vessels guarantee digital access to culture, education, entertainment, services, and professional training in Santa Cruz, Vila Aliança, Padre Miguel, Irajá, Penha, Madureira, Nova Brasília, Triagem e Engenho de Dentro (Rio de Janeiro).

Great Masters

A multiplayer video wall with multi-touch selector in which news, videos, and infographics about the host neighborhoods could be added.

Digital Art

A slideshow added by hand movements (equipped with motion sensors).

Knowledge Cloud

Interactive interface with all the content and information connected to the Knowledge Square and all of the Spaceships.

Seeds of Tomorrow Tree

Recording hubs, where one can watch testimonials about the project. These stimulated cultural manifestation and spontaneous creation.

Rio of Tomorrow Model

Rio’s urban skyline from today and from tomorrow, together. Through Virtual Reality, current construction works and urban projects appear in real time, as the visitor spins the screen around the model.

Technologies

To make this beautiful dream come true, it was necessary to equip the Knowledge Vessels with state of the art technology supplies.
